“From the crooked timber of humanity not a straight thing was ever made.” Immanuel Kant
Memorial Drive OTP (outside the perimeter) is at first blush (and also second blush) an eyesore and culinary crap shoot. Just before crossing over I-285 and overlooking Memorial Drive is the forbidding gray concrete county jail. Go past the jail, cross over 8 lanes of interstate highway hell and you are OTP on Memorial Drive. On the left is a dying, unnamed shopping center that once housed Circuit City (remember Circuit City?) and is now home to Octapharma Plasma, Dekalb Dialysis, a DUI school, bail bond companies, and Burger King. Across the road is an abandoned gas station, flower shop, Wendy’s, and United Inn (Yelp review: Someone was murdered here. Watch “The First 48” on A&E, episode s12/ep02.. Very disturbing…..)
But in spite of the obvious decay here are many subdivisions that surround Memorial Drive OTP. And hopefully for residents there are some delightful restaurants peppered throughout. And that is what this web site is about…finding those restaurants and reporting the good, the bad, and the unsavory. Hopefully the more we talk about restaurants and Memorial Drive OTP the more we will spark the prospects of positive change.
For suggestions on places to eat but not reviews see the Dunaire Neighborhood blog. They go out as a group and frequent many restaurants in the area: http://dunaireneighbors.blogspot.com/
