The Last Semi-Palmated Plover. This is not true. But it felt like it at the moment I sat down and started looking over my photographs that day. I dodged the light on the plover and the thought came to me: “the last one”. It is a part of our modern journey now. Creatures disappear, not because of natural selection, but because we allow it to happen, cause it to happen. In this photograph, in my imagination, the bird knows it is the last semi-palmated plover and waits patiently for the end.
